Handsfree Driving – What will change?

Once we achieve Level 5 autonomy, the travel activities inside the car will change drastically. Apple’s recent focus on car play in WWDC signals the race to capture such changes.

I was discussing this with my friend Mahesh. The phase one shift will be when the infotainment screen again becomes the entertainment screen. In phase two, we will see a lot of design changes at the manufacturing level.

Zooming on phase one, we were thinking of how existing companies will embrace this change. One idea (that we were thinking of filing a patent on) is how Netflix and Prime will start suggesting the content to watch based on the parameters attached to travelling. Like duration of travel (quick/long journey), who’s travelling along with me (family/children content). Mahesh did a quick 5-min-search and found one such patent EP2997332B1 already filed back in 2014 by AUDI AG (we were just 8 years late to the party).

What else do you think will change once we go hands-free driving?
